7 new ways to be a gentleman

Think pulling out chairs — or, better yet, laying cloaks over puddles to prevent needless muddying of a lady’s footwear — is the way to woo women? Alas, gentlemen, that’s old-school chivalry. Such classic gestures are nice, but charm and etiquette in the modern age need an update, and this is where some lesser gents fall short, losing valuable chances to impress that special someone. To update your panache, below are seven tips for the modern gent’s arsenal.

Be a man with a plan
“So, what do you want to do?” Seemingly considerate to someone else’s desires, it’s really just a lame line identifying you as a lazy suitor. Thus, during the all-important date-planning call, smartly assertive chaps offer a well-thought-out, multiple choice of outings (“Tapas and tunes, teriyaki at the dog track, or pomme frites and a foreign flick?”). And in the event of a booked bistro, weather outbreaks, or a date that’s going so swimmingly you’d like to continue the fun at a follow-up venue, the forward-thinking man scopes out a few more bars or cafés in the neighborhood. That way you can suavely say, “Hey, I know this great place around the corner where we can go for some killer carrot cake. What do you think?”

Give her a joy ride
Some occasions find the gent acting as chauffeur, and in these instances, car-side manners are a must. They begin, of course, with the gracious opening of her passenger door before your own. Then, consider your sedan’s interior a mobile living room, requiring you to drive safely while playing host. To set the mood, put away your so-titled Kick-Ass Road Tunes mix. We’re not advocating lily-limp Kenny G light jazz, just tone it down a notch until her tastes are determined. And while showing off your indie band cool, mind the climate control. Is she panting for fresh air? Similarly, wow your date with handsome features and toned biceps, not your drag-racing ability. “Drive real fast, speed turns me on,” works in Will Smith lyrics, but your date should be embracing your hand, not gripping the chicken bar with white knuckles at every hair-raising turn.

Nix the interruptions
We’re sure you’ve heard this before but it bears repeating: Few things are a bigger turn-off than the lout who’s thumbs-deep in his cell phone texting away with friends while pretending to be “interested” or answering calls mid-date like an annoying social butterfly with the raised index finger (“One sec… I gotta take this”). The simple rule is no cell phone activity or “Crackberry” checking on a date. A quick call might be had during a bathroom break, but no more. If you’re expecting an important call or email, inform your escort early on, and rudeness will be averted.

Try a new form of flattery
It’s well known that warm words of praise defrost the iciest of personalities. But the type of compliment you concoct can make a big difference. While nice to hear, predictable compliments (“Your hair looks nice”) lead nowhere (“Thanks. I just went to the salon”). Instead, try something less superficial, like a perceptive bon mot about her wicked sense of humor, distinctive voice, or contagious laugh. This proves to her you’re interested in more than just her arm-candy potential and paints you as a deep, intriguing sort she’ll definitely want to get to know better.

Use physical contact to show you care
Of course, getting too touchy-feely with a date will only convince her you’re a cad. But the right amount of bodily contact can show the opposite—that you’re a lionhearted fellow who’s interested in her not just as a friend, but as a love interest as well. So when a rendezvous has produced some sparks, go ahead and take her hand. A tenderly treated lady revels in the public view that she’s out on a date and can say in so many words, “Yeah, he’s with me.”

Master group dynamics
A rollicking party breaks the same-old, same-old night-on-the-town ritual and exposes your budding romance to the glamour (or specter) of your friends and you to her mingling skills. However, manners are more than stowing her coat and showing the way to the loo. For the first half hour or so, keep by your date’s side and make sure she’s comfortable, rather than leaving her to fend for herself while you catch up with old buds. Once her comfort is assured, you can steal away now and again, though not for too long, and only after leaving her among an engaging circle of friends. Lastly, until exclusivity is established, steer clear of awkward introductions like, “This is my girlfriend” or the slightly denigrating, “Meet my friend Sophia.” Instead, just put your arm around her and say “This is Gaby.” People will easily take the hint, and you’re spared the awkwardness of trying to classify the relationship as something more or less than it actually is.

Call her the day afterwards
The “three-day rule” or other such nonsensical delaying tactics are out of vogue. Grade F dates or lukewarm experiences might warrant polite goodbyes, but a gent makes positive intentions known at the close of the date (or even sooner), and the next day, follows up with some telephonic feedback (“Last night’s pad thai was killer… and so are your eyes. When I can feast on both again?”). Let the so-called players leave a gal in the lurch, while you swoop in and proceed to the glories of dates #2, #3, and beyond.

pagan 12 step program

substance, or alcohol abuse problem...i found in the pagan community
that addiction runs rampid, and theres this thought that if your
witchcraft if done right you dont need a recovery program...well i
found that my magickal and spiritual energy has been inhanced greatly
using this program..im in recovery for alcohol, and go to A.A.
meetings regulary, and carry the message of the Goddess in what i

Inanna is the Sumerian goddess, honoured at the dark moon, as it is she who fixes destinies at each new moon. Inanna's journey into the underworld and subsequent revitalisation represents the soul's evolution through hardship into glorious renewal.

She finally learned first-hand to accept her vulnerability, as well as the understanding of the necessity of sacrifice and death for the cycles of life to continue. These revelations increased her power, beauty and wisdom.

HER MODERN ENERGY

If you are repeating old habits, ask Inanna to help you shed your layers that keep you trapped. When she was not invited to a party of the greek pantheon... she showed up anyway... rolling out the golden apple with the engraving "For the Fairess". The resulting bickering amidst the other goddesses results in the Trojan War. Go figure.

You can try to avoid and ban chaos in YOUR life too... but she WILL come to the party.

Better to invite her and embrace her than to find her present anyway... and offended. Much better.

She is a goddess that still directly impacts every human all the time in the material world.

She does have a dark side... that of CHOAS in the form of destruction and explosion. But that too is a needed part of evolution. It is the volcanoes that form the land which all else is built on.

But she also is the goddess of CHANCE for those who EMBRACE her and welcome her into their lives.

She is how synocracy manifests in reality. She manifests karma through "chance" encounters... unusual activities...

Her touch is always gently upon us... and as we question reality and look at the mechanisms of the universe... as we stare off in contemplation... you may well come to realize you are staring into the eyes of this goddess.

The track of EVERY life is greatly and disproportionally impacted by the sudden unexpected chaotic events of our lives...

It is similarly deeply influenced and shaped by an incredible array of chance encounters and chance sequence of events.

Eris lies hidden in the shadow... a goddess possessing an internal yin/yang... capable of great acts of light or acts of chaos and disruption.

SHE doesn't have a lot of minions and followers. The path to finding her is steep but short... because she lives in the shadows at about 90 degrees from the reality we normally perceive.... and many people fear those shadows and that short journey.

Where order is TOO tight and rigid... she provides chaos and disruption. Where there is TOO MUCH chaos... she uses "chance" to add elements of order.

Twelve are the houses of the Lords of Illusion,

Keys are they of life and of Death.

the form of He who is One and in all.

Three is the mystery, come from the great one.

In the primeval, dwell three unities.
Other than these, none can exist.
These are the equilibrium, source of creation:
one God, one Truth, one point of freedom.

Three come forth from the three of the balance:
all life, all good, all power.

Three are the qualities of God in his Light-home:
Infinite power, Infinite Wisdom, Infinite Love.

Three are the powers given to the Masters:
To transmute evil, assist good, use discrimination.

Three are the things inevitable for God to perform:
Manifest power, wisdom and love.

Three are the powers creating all things:
Divine Love possessed of perfect knowledge,

Divine Power possessed by the joint will of
Divine Love and Wisdom.

Three are the circles (states) of existence:
The circle of Light where dwells nothing but God,
and only God can traverse it;
the circle of Chaos where all things
by nature arise from death;
the Circle of awareness where
all things spring from life.

All things animate are of three states of existence:
chaos or death, liberty in humanity and felicity of Heaven.

Three necessities control all things:
beginning in the Great Deep, the circle of chaos, plenitude in Heaven.

Three are the paths of the Soul:
Man, Liberty, Light.

Three are the hindrances:
lack of endeavor to obtain knowledge;
non-attachment to god; attachment to evil.
In man, the three are manifest.
Three are the Kings of power within.
Three are the chambers of the mysteries,
found yet not found in the body of man.

Hear ye now of he who is liberated,
freed from the bondage of life into Light.
Knowing the source of all worlds shall be open.
Aye, even the Gates of Arulu shall not be barred.
Yet heed, O man, who would'st enter heaven.
If ye be not worthy,
better it be to fall into the fire.
Know ye the celestials pass through the pure flame.
At every revolution of the heavens,
they bathe in the fountains of Light.

Long in the past before ye were man-born,
I dwelled in Ancient Atlantis.
There in the Temple,
I drank of the Wisdom,
poured as a fountain of Light
from the Dweller.

Give the key to ascend to the
Presence of Light in the Great world.

enthroned in the Flower of Fire.
Veiled was he by the lightnings of darkness,
else my Soul by the Glory have been shattered.

Forth from the feet of his Throne like the diamond,
rolled forth four rivers of flame from his footstool,
rolled through the channels of clouds to the Man-world.
Filled was the hall with Spirits of Heaven.
Wonder of wonders was the Starry palace.

Above the sky, like a rainbow of Fire and Sunlight,
were Formed the Spirits.
Sang they the glories of the Holy One.
Then from the midst of the Fire came a voice:
Behold the Glory of the first Cause.
I beheld that Light, high above all darkness,
reflected in my own being.
I attained, as it were, to the God of all Gods,
the Spirit-Sun, the Sovereign of the Sun spheres.

There is One, Even the First,
who hath no beginning,
who hath no end;
who hath made all things,
who govern all,
who is good,
who is just,
who illumines,
who sustains.

Then from the throne, there poured a great radiance,
surrounding and lifting my soul by its power.
Swiftly I moved through the spaces of Heaven,
shown was I the mystery of mysteries,
shown the Secret heart of the cosmos.

Carried was I to the land of Arulu,
stood before the Lords in their Houses.

Opened they the Doorway so I might
glimpse the primeval chaos.

shrank back my soul from the ocean of darkness.

saw the need for the Lords of Arulu..

Only they with their Infinite balance could

Only they could guard God's creation.

Saw all the souls who had conquered the darkness.
Saw the splendor of Light where they dwelled.

Longed I to take my place in their circle,
but longed I also for the way I had chosen,
when I stood in the Halls of Amenti
and made my choice to the work I would do.

Passed I from the Halls of Arulu
down to the earth space where my body lay.
Arose I from the earth where I rested.
Stood I before the Dweller.

Gave my pledge to renounce my Great
right until my work on Earth was completed,
until the Age of darkness be past.

Hello , Children of the Goddess!!!

If any of you are feeling up to a challenge, I recommend "Right Use of Will: Healing and Evolving the Emotional Body" by Ceanne Derohan; available @ many metaphysical bookshops or online @ www.rightuseofwill.com...........................it's a wonderful thing for the truly determined and those who want to know WHO is She. There are benificial side effects to following this path - the book and the following books ( a series of 8 total ) clear up a lot of the mysteries surrounding the Mother and even give help in achieving the "impossible".

For example, I am 41 years old and look very mid-twenties. Not on purpose so much as a result of playing w/those books.

There's more wonderful nuttiness to them, too; but for now my Life calls.

There is an inherent need in alternative spiritual paths to be inclusive of ALL of those who have been touched by the Divine Feminine.

I challenge any man visiting this site to join with good intent; to share ideas and insights, and to dare yourself to create a dialogue with other Goddess men. This need not be orientation specific or gender specific, for she fills us all. It would be equally wrong to ban our sisters from partaking in this dialogue, but if they do join, please respect their autonomy and privacy, for they are the Goddess incarnate, and we should respect them as such.

Now that the "heavy" stuff is overwith, give us a shout and let's get the tribe rolling. I know you are out there. ;-)

I'm PdxDruid. I want to invite you all to a really awesome 3D chat
messenger. I have alot of Pagan friends there & been drawing many
from other areas on the Net to there. I'm hoping to create a really
strong Pagan presence there. When you join through my link you will
automatically be added to my Buddy list. This will help you find other
Pagans here as almost every single person in my Buddy list is Pagan of one
flavor or another. Heres a run down of how to earn credits here to buy stuff.
When you join they start you off with a 1,000 credits (Credits is our virtual currency).
The main ways to earn credits is to invite folks. When someone first accepts
a invite from you, you earn 500 credits then another 500 credits when they have their
first chat. They give you credit when they hit their 5th chat and others too
but I haven't kept up on how many. LOL Anyway if they buy their name ($7.95)
you get 2,500 credits. NOTE: You don't need to buy your name if you don't want to.
If you don't then you just end up stuck with the word Guest in front of your name.
Alot of folks have guest in front of their name & been here since the beginning.
Also Guest have little ads on there homepage. No biggy. The benefits of buying
your name is it drops the Guest from name, drops the ads from your homepage.
Allows you to download the Developer program & become a
Developer and design & sell clothes & other stuff in the catalog and
a few other things I haven't really learned yet. But mainly unless you
want to be a Developer you don't need to buy your name unless you don't
like Guest in front of your name. One of my friends I invited husband
bought her the full adult access pass & I got 10,000 credits. Adult
Access allows you to buy adult mature stuff like nudity skins and stuff.
So unless you like doing rituals online Skyclad or (LOL) a real flirt
you don't need it. LOL You can buy credits but unless you are loaded
why bother? You can earn plenty just by inviting folks and its a great
way to make friends as well. Speaking of Rituals online. No one is
doing this yet here & one of my good friends is a Developer & I'm
learning to be a Developer. Me & her are working on creating ritual
scenes/themes so folks can do ritual online. Great for those who are
in secluded places or don't have other Pagans in their area to work
with and like to even if it is online, experience ritual with others.
I have a Stonehenge Theme that has a Ritual/council like lodge & hold
little workshop discussions within it. Its a great little lodge to do
Druidic 101 or Wicca 101 classes in also. I also have a Redwoods Theme
and I just did a cyber handfasting in it for 2 and that was kinda cool.
Their Avatars were all dressed up for it & mine wore its celtic robe
and deer antlers on his head (This avatar is temporarly down and I'm
using my PdxDruid one). LOL There are alot of cool Pagan themes
already but they are mainly Pagan social themes. Like the Wiccan
Retreat Cafe & the Goddess Cabin. 2 of my favorite. The first time I
chat with you its in the Cafe. The Cafe can seat like 12 people so its
kinda cool though its still in Beta and can usually only get 3 avatars
to appear in it though I did have up to 7 Avatars in there once. They
are busy working out the kinks though and many I have invited love it
enough they willing to deal with the little quirks. LOL Anyway when
you join and I'm on I spend my first chat with you teaching you how
to control your Avatar and to get to know you then set you loose to
have fun and explore. If I'm not online when you join just click Chat
now & someone will pop up and help you. If you get a newbie learn what
you can then say thank you and try Chat now again till you get someone
whose gotten good at it.
You can also click my homepage in your Buddy list & there you will
fine my buddy list and it will show you who is online (this is great
if you perfer to have a fellow Pagan help you rather than a random

This concept grew out of a lecture I recently gave on this topic at a spiritual conference, after which I was beseiged by requests to turn it into a book. I know a sign from the Gods when I see one, so...

I'm looking to interview Wiccan priests - any tradition, any age, any background - about their experiences leading groups. I am particularly interested in talking to men who used to lead groups but are not doing so now. The groups can be covens, networking organizations, pagan public awareness groups, or anything of that ilk. If your group uses the image or metaphor of a King or Kingdom in your practices, I would especially like to talk to you. I'm not looking for details about your group's practices: I'm more interested in how Wiccan group leadership affects men who assume the HP role.

Divine Masculine / Feminine: representations

So. Many representations of the divine feminine from the 5-pointed star path of the planet Venus to Sheela-na-gig to the rounded figurines from pre-history. What's out there for men? I'd like to talk about correspondences.

Horned creatures, like the Stag are masculine, is there a corresponding feminine representation?

The 5-pointed star is feminine; what is the masculine counterpart?

What masculine prehistoric figures are there to counterbalance, say, the bird-woman figures from prehistoric Egypt, or any of the other famous figurines?

Anyone think of any other pairs?

What do you think about the word "Crone?"

Greetings soulful ones,

I was having a discussion recently about the idea of calling an archetype or a Goddess, a "Crone."

When I was in Ireland last summer, I got speaking to an old Irish wood carver in Sligo. He was quite a gregarious man who made carvings of Celtic Myths. While speaking with him, he told me that the word "Crone" (as in maiden, mother,crone,) was quite disrespectable by the modern connotations of the word. I quite heartily agreed.

Since then, I have used "Elder" or "Grandmother" to describe this Feminine archetype.

What are your thoughts?

Healings by the Goddess/Divine Feminine/Mother

I had an little experience a couple days of getting into an awkward state with my bicycle and in stopping the bike from flipping over, I jammed my bare left foot/heel down on the asphalt road. Ouch!

Luckily I was just on my way to the beach to say hello to the Goddess, so I used the opportunity to go into the ocean water and ask for healing from the Divine Mother. Needless to say, there was healing and my foot felt much better.

I'm interested to hear from anyone with experiences of healing and the Divine Feminine.

Happy Soul-stice!

Greetings everyone!

I wanted to wish you a very blessed solstice, and a very peaceful and insightful summer!

There was a very nasty thread developing by a negative person who's only desire seemed to be flaming the tribe. Up until last night, I felt that everyone deserved a right to be heard. Well, I had a chat with "her" and that is now changed. No longer can I stand for a world full of hatred and negativity. No longer can I stand by and tolerate people who wish to spread this kind of ignorance. This world is dying, and if I can perform this one task to stop the spread of the terminal "hate" disease, than I will. Therefore, the first order of the day is to do a little solstice "cleaning." This means that the character "sub" will live up to his namesake, and be just that (in this tribe, anyway.)

I am in the unique position of being able to do something about it, and in such, have made this tribe (temporarily) moderated. You may not agree with this decision, but I feel that it is time (for myself, and hopefully others,) to take a stand about what kind of world they want to live in; love or fear - hatred or peace. Sub can live in his subterranean world if he likes, but not here.

Discussion: How do you experience creating a dialogue about the Goddess to friends, family, and community?

Hi there....

So I thought I might pose the question. How do you find that your are moving through the world (being a male or supporter of Goddess men) in conversation with your friends, family, even fellow sisters?

For myself, it took years before I could even mention Her to anyone. It was like the Golden Egg. I still (to this day,) do not feel it necessary to tell anyone....ahhh yes, but this is Tribe.net, and so I feel alright with having a discussion with like minds.

I organized a festival for 3 years, in which (last year) our theme was "Divine Feminine." By this 3rd year, I didn't have to say much....Pop culture (i.e. Divinci Code) was placing the idea to the masses. It seemed synchronistic in that sense. But what I did find was resistance between our event and the City, as well as within our own community (the Goddess Culture.) Specifically, trying to find groups that would be open minded to the likes of a Man who felt the Goddess Presence within him. Even on Tribe, I believe there is only 1 group that allows this dialogue to happen, and even in such, ALREADY assumes that men are coming there as a means for personal ads. While this might be the case with a few random men, I do not believe this to be the case of the majority.

What are your thoughts on the subject?
